Eight New Directors Elected to 2017 Equestrian Canada Board

Ottawa, ON, Aug. 24, 2017 – The Equestrian Canada (EC) Nominating Committee is pleased to announce the board candidate election results and the eight (8) new Directors who have been elected to the 2017 EC Board.

Ottawa, ON, Aug. 24, 2017 – The Equestrian Canada (EC) Nominating Committee is pleased to announce the board candidate election results and the eight (8) new Directors who have been elected to the 2017 EC Board.

The full results of the board candidate election are as follows:

*The full election process, including the process for points tabulation, will be detailed in a final report by the Nominating Committee. The report will be presented during the 2017 EC Annual General Meeting in September 2017, and then made available on the EC website.

The following returning Directors will round out the 2017 EC Board:

Jorge Bernhard - ON
Dominique Chagnon – QC
Lisa Lazarus – QC
Doug Orr – AB

During the call for EC Board candidates, a total of 33 qualified applications provided a nomination package by close of the nomination period on June 1, 2017. Following an in-depth review of all candidates, the EC Nominating Committee unanimously agreed to put forward ballot nominations for 11 individuals.

The EC Voting Members were invited to cast their ballots between July 31 and Aug. 3, 2017 to determine the successful candidates.

“On behalf of EC, I am pleased to welcome the new Directors to the EC Board,” said Peggy Hambly, EC President. “It is exciting to see EC’s new governance model at work, ensuring that the voting structure is effective and equitable, and that board candidates are elected based on the relevant skills, knowledge and experience to lead EC to be a world-class equestrian organization.”

As per Bylaw 4.2, b) Transition, there were up to eight (8) Director positions to be filled for 2017 as follows:

  • Four (4) positions for a three-year term ending in 2020
  • One (1) position for a one-year term ending in 2018


In addition, as a result of resignations, the Board elected to fill the vacancies for the balance of the terms as follows:

  • Two (2) positions for a two-year term ending in 2019
  • One (1) position for a one-year term ending in 2018


Following this announcement of the successful candidates, the Nominating Committee Chair will be presenting the terms of office for each of the newly elected Board members for acceptance by the Board. Each candidate will be informed of the decision prior to the general release of this information.

Huit nouveaux élus au CA de Canada Équestre

Ottawa (Ontario), le 24 août 2017. – Le comité des mises en candidature de Canada Équestre (CE) est heureux d’annoncer le résultat de l’élection et les noms des huit (8) nouveaux administrateurs au conseil d’administration de CE de 2017.

* Le processus électoral complet, y compris celui utilisé pour établir le tableau des points, sera détaillé dans le rapport final du comité des mises en candidature. Ce rapport sera présenté à l’assemblée générale annuelle de Canada Équestre en septembre 2017, puis mis à la disposition de tous sur le site web de CE.

Les administrateurs suivants poursuivront leur mandat jusqu’à la fin de l’année :

Au terme de la période d’appel de candidatures qui a pris fin le 1er juin 2017, 33 candidats qualifiés avaient soumis leur dossier. Après une revue approfondie de tous les dossiers, les membres du comité des mises en candidature se sont entendus unanimement pour soumettre une liste de 11 candidats aux élections.

Les membres votants ont ensuite été invités à se prononcer entre le 31 juillet et le 3 août 2017.

« Au nom de CE, je suis ravie d’accueillir les nouveaux administrateurs, affirme Peggy Hambly, présidente de la fédération. C’est stimulant de voir à l’œuvre la nouvelle structure de gouvernance, qui garantit un processus électoral efficace et équitable et qui veille à ce que les candidats soient élus selon les compétences, connaissances et expérience qu’ils mettront à profit pour que CE soit une fédération équestre de classe mondiale. »

Huit (8) postes d’administrateurs étaient à pourvoir en 2017. Conformément aux règlements administratifs, article 4.2 b) Transition :

  • Quatre (4) postes seront occupés pour un mandat de trois ans se terminant en 2020.
  • Un (1) poste sera occupé pour un mandat d’un an se terminant en 2018.


De plus, à la suite de démissions, le conseil d’administration a décidé de pourvoir les postes laissés vacants comme suit :

  • Deux (2) postes seront occupés pour un mandat de deux ans se terminant en 2019.
  • Un (1) poste sera occupé pour un mandat d’un an se terminant en 2018.


Pour faire suite à l’annonce des candidats élus, la présidente du comité des mises en candidature définira le mandat de chaque nouveau membre, qui sera soumis au conseil d’administration pour approbation. Les candidats seront informés de la décision avant qu’elle ne soit rendue publique.
